From guest attendees at Fantastic Fest:
Noahphex - "What the movie lacked for effects makes up for it in droves in tension and
solid performances. Can a movie be carried by mostly 2 actors trapped in a car? The Wreck says yes. The tense moments deliver
and I really cared for the characters. The end could of been more solid (its a little cheesy) but it did not detract from
the rest of the movie for me."
Sarahd - "Claustrophobic,
well-executed all around. Doesn't really aspire to be anything more than a good ride, but accomplishes that. I was loving
this movie until very close to the end, when all of a sudden there stops being any subtext. We learn too many specifics about
the characters' history and the horror of being pregnant and stuck in this incredibly vulnerable position, which had been
a running theme, is kind of just thrown away at the very end."
Prettygood - "Acting was good. Not easy to keep "two people trapped in a car" interesting for 60+
minutes. Cinematography a little iffy/video-y, though they did have a bit of a budget for the shoot. Two admirably squirm-inducing
gore scenes. Plot has a red herring that felt like a cheap trick after viewing. Solid, gory, illogical B-horror."
Purukivel - "Interesting, at least for the basic concept that
seems to have driven the filmmakers: we have a low budget, and let's give ourselves the additional challenge of shooting
most everything in one tiny claustrophoic set housing a bunch of two-handed scenes. It's...perfectly adequate. I wish
I could say more than that in praise, but it really just doesn't quite transcend its limitations. The sound effects for
the gunfire were really bad and in fact the direction of the scenes involving gunplay was really off--it was impossible to
tell when or if anyone had been tagged, and consequently at least one climactic scene just felt off a beat or two. Definitely
a reasonably intriguing experiment, though, and I did not see the ending coming."
Thecorners - "While very intense and disturbing, this movie had a lot more going for it. The impending doom
that was present throughout was woven with some moving and even funny moments between the two leads, and the spare shots of
the woods provided the right punctuation for the traumatic events depicted. As disturbing as the events of the plot were,
I found that the quieter aspects of the movie stuck with me the most."
annie2957 - "One of the better films at this year's festival. Although it left me feeling disturbed with
an unsettled stomach, it left me pondering; if I were in this situation, how would I handle it and would I be capable of sacrifice….fatal
sacrifice. One of the most riveting 20 minute sequences I have seen in the cinema in years. Superbly acted and well directed."
Saddleman - "The acting redeems this intense but utterly unbelievable
survival horror tale - nothing about the couple's dilemma felt plausible, especially when it goes to really fucked up
places - also, I know it's set at night, but how about some more lighting? Not the strongest fest entry, but worth a look
if there's absolutely nothing else to see at the time (and really, is that ever the case?)"
